The best things to do in Whistler

Whistler is a stunning resort based in the Coast Mountains and is a short 2 hour drive North of Vancouver. Whistler is home to amazing skiing and snowboarding in Winter. In Summer it turns to a haven for golf, hiking and biking. Whistler Village is a pedestrianised zone that is the heart of Whistler, with accommodation, restaurants, shops and activities all found within the small village.

I visited Whistler in July 2019 whilst on a road trip from Vancouver to Calgary through the Rockies with my family. We had 2 days in Whistler itself and then on the third day we went to Joffre Lakes and continued on to the next stop on our road trip. We did so many fun activities whilst we were here!

Top things to do in Whistler:

Zip lining:

I absolutely love ziplining & if there’s an option to do it on holiday I will always look to weave it in to the itinerary. I love the adrenaline rush you get! Ziplining in Whistler has been one of my favourites. We did the eagle tour with Ziptrek Ecotours and it was so amazing! The instructors were so great as well and made the experience so fun and enjoyable. Even my parents (who are mid 50’s) thoroughly enjoyed the experience. During the tours the guides showed us we could go upside down on the zip line & we were able to practice on some of the wires.

Zip Trek have so many different tours to choose from depending on what kind of tour you’d like to do, we were debating between the Eagle Tour or the Sasquatch tour, the Sasquatch the fastest zipline which sounded amazing & slightly scary but in the end we went with the Eagle Tour as we wanted to go on several zip lines. You also get such an amazing view of the forest below & some of the line are SO long!

I’d definitely recommend & also suggest making sure you book in advance to guarantee your spot

Cycling the Valley Trail:

Similarly to ziplining, I love cycling & so does my family! So whenever we’re on holiday if there’s an option to hire bikes we’ll be there! Whistler is one of the best areas cycle as you can cycle around an area known as the Valley Trail along dedicated cycle lanes.

From Whistler village we cycled along the Valley Trail to Alpha Lake, then followed the trail to Nita Lake & Alta Lake. We then followed it all the way to Green Lake. This was one of my favourite days! We ended up cycling for hours but we did have to wait in the middle whilst there was a short downpour! I’d definitely recommend cycling round Whistler as there are just so many different paths you could follow!

Whistler Mountain Bike Park

In Summer Whistler has it’s very own Mountain Bike Park! The park is suitable for all levels and abilities thanks to its four zones and range of trials. We watched these bikers coming down the trails and it was so cool! For more information have a look here.

Peak 2 Peak Gondola

One of the most scenic journeys you will take, an 11 minute ride across the 4.4km gap between Blackcomb and Whistler Mountains. The Gondola is the highest list of it’s kind standing at 436m above the valley floor! You can access the Peak 2 Peak Gondola with either the Whistler Village Gondola or the Blackcomb Gondola. This Gondola is included within your Peak 2 Peak ticket.

Joffre Lakes

Hike to 3 amazing lakes just a short drive from Whistler! These lakes are so amazing I’ve written a whole separate post which you can check out here

There are many other activities to do in Whistler as well including hiking trails, whitewater rafting, rock climbing, golf!
